ABOUT C.A.B.B. FARMS

Meet The Benders

A FAMILY AFFAIR

We began raising Angus and American Aberdeen cattle with the goal of creating a sustainable grass-fed and finished herd on our 68-area farm near Lexington, Ohio. By tracking the genetics of our cattle, we make wise investments in our cows and bulls in order to produce cattle that excel in meat production. This allows us to produce lean, flavorful, tasty and well-marbled beef for your family.

We are not certified organic, but we do utilize sustainable practices and intensively graze our herd. Furthermore, we have a precise vaccination plan in place so we can maintain optimal health of each of our animals. Antibiotic use is limited to only necessary treatments for illness or injury of an animal and is diligently tracked.

Taking care of our cattle is a Bender family affair. Erin and Dustin own the grass-fed herd of Angus and American-Aberdeen cattle in Lexington, Ohio with their kids Amelia, 12, and Mathias, 9. The C.A.B.B. Farms story began in the spring of 2007 when we purchased our first Angus cow-calf pair. Since then, the farm has grown to about 120 head of cattle. Dustin handles the custom hay baling, while the rest of the family helps with the every-day tasks of bedding, feeding and moving the cattle. Amelia and Mathias have their own herds, make their own genetic decisions, and determine which cows go through the feedlot to contribute to the family’s freezer beef business. Amelia and Mathias can choose to continue growing their herd or put the profit from that animal in their college fund. Every weekend, the Benders can be found at local central Ohio farmer’s markets. As consumers realize the benefits of grass-fed beef, the demand for our premier beef grows. Because of this, our focus has shifted to figuring out how production can be increased while continuing to meet our own high standards regarding quality. Our family enjoys the challenge of learning the best ways to meet consumer demand for our premier grass-fed beef products without compromising the fundamental ideals of the operation.

Our Partnerships

American Angus Association

Our origins were with the Angus Association. When deciding how we wanted to start the farm and what breed we were going to start with, we loved all of the benefits that registered Angus stock brought to the table. Mothering / beef production / hardiness – they were all there! We still have registered Angus stock.

American Aberdeen Association

Once we were established and looking to improve our beef and production style, we were introduced to American Aberdeen – previously Lowline. This breed has its root in the same bloodlines as many of the great Angus dams & sires of yesterday. One of differences is the registered full-bloods have to 100% DNA test back to the original herd bloodlines. They were also selectively bred to keep that smaller frame size. In recent years, there has been more research done studying frame size, efficiency especially as it relates to grass fed & finished.

Eastern Aberdeen Association

We are also proud supporters of the Eastern Aberdeen Association, a regional association for which Dustin serves on the board of directors. The regional associations do much of the marketing and more localized outreach based around the breed.

Ohio Cattlemen's Association

We are also part of our state Cattlemen’s & CattleWomen’s associations. We feel this helps us keep in touch with state regulations, with a special focus around the cattle industry. The association also works hand in hand with The Ohio State University (our state land grant), the Ohio Beef Council, our state legislature, as well as the National Beef Council.

Giving Back

C.A.B.B. Farms believes in giving back to our communities. That’s why we donate 5% of all our sales to the Worthington Resource Pantry and the Otterbein University Promise House. That spirit is also why we have set up our SNAP EBT program, allowing participants to realize savings on healthy, protein-rich beef for their families.
