We began raising Angus and American Aberdeen cattle with the goal of creating a sustainable grass-fed and finished herd on our 68-area farm near Lexington, Ohio. By tracking the genetics of our cattle, we make wise investments in our cows and bulls in order to produce cattle that excel in meat production. This allows us to produce lean, flavorful, tasty and well-marbled beef for your family.
We are not certified organic, but we do utilize sustainable practices and intensively graze our herd. Furthermore, we have a precise vaccination plan in place so we can maintain optimal health of each of our animals. Antibiotic use is limited to only necessary treatments for illness or injury of an animal and is diligently tracked.
Our origins were with the Angus Association. When deciding how we wanted to start the farm and what breed we were going to start with, we loved all of the benefits that registered Angus stock brought to the table. Mothering / beef production / hardiness – they were all there! We still have registered Angus stock.
Once we were established and looking to improve our beef and production style, we were introduced to American Aberdeen – previously Lowline. This breed has its root in the same bloodlines as many of the great Angus dams & sires of yesterday. One of differences is the registered full-bloods have to 100% DNA test back to the original herd bloodlines. They were also selectively bred to keep that smaller frame size. In recent years, there has been more research done studying frame size, efficiency especially as it relates to grass fed & finished.
We are also proud supporters of the Eastern Aberdeen Association, a regional association for which Dustin serves on the board of directors. The regional associations do much of the marketing and more localized outreach based around the breed.
We are also part of our state Cattlemen’s & CattleWomen’s associations. We feel this helps us keep in touch with state regulations, with a special focus around the cattle industry. The association also works hand in hand with The Ohio State University (our state land grant), the Ohio Beef Council, our state legislature, as well as the National Beef Council.
C.A.B.B. Farms believes in giving back to our communities. That’s why we donate 5% of all our sales to the Worthington Resource Pantry and the Otterbein University Promise House. That spirit is also why we have set up our SNAP EBT program, allowing participants to realize savings on healthy, protein-rich beef for their families.
